The Devil in the Cave - Behind the Name
The legend behind Devil's Cave is base on Dan's great-great grandfather who was known as the Devil. He was involved in a wager between the miners where the first man to get home would have free beer all night. Being the Devil, his tactic was a little more frightful than the rest. He dared to swim through the coal pit and come out via the mouth of the cave located at the end of Spittal beach. His venture paid off; he was the first man home and the drink flowed freely for him all night! We can't recommend anyone follow in his footsteps though!
